The Holy Quran 12:20 — Surah Yusuf

Arabic text

وَشَرَوْهُ بِثَمَنٍۭ بَخْسٍ دَرَٰهِمَ مَعْدُودَةٍ وَكَانُوا۟ فِيهِ مِنَ ٱلزَّٰهِدِينَ

Translation

They (the brothers) sold him (to the travellers) for the meagre price of a few (18) Dirhams and they showed no interest in him (saying that they no longer needed him). (The travellers proceeded to Egypt, where they sold Yusuf عليه الصلاة والسلام to one of the king's ministers.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وباعه إخوته للواردين من المسافرين بثمن قليل من الدراهم، وكانوا زاهدين فيه راغبين في التخلص منه; وذلك أنهم لا يعلمون منزلته عند الله.
