The Holy Quran 10:15 — Surah Yunus

Arabic text

وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَاتُنَا بَيِّنَـٰتٍ ۙ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَآءَنَا ٱئْتِ بِقُرْءَانٍ غَيْرِ هَـٰذَآ أَوْ بَدِّلْهُ ۚ قُلْ مَا يَكُونُ لِىٓ أَنْ أُبَدِّلَهُۥ مِن تِلْقَآئِ نَفْسِىٓ ۖ إِنْ أَتَّبِعُ إِلَّا مَا يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ ۖ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ إِنْ عَصَيْتُ رَبِّى عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

Translation

When Our verses (of the Qur'aan) are recited to them, those who do not wish to meet Us say, "Bring us another Qur'aan besides this one or alter it (so that our idols are not condemned in it)." Tell them, "It is not (permissible) for me to alter it of my own accord. I follow only what has been revealed to me (from Allaah). If I disobey my Rabb (by altering the Qur'aan) I fear (that I shall have to suffer) the punishment of a momentous day (the Day of Qiyaamah)."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وإذا تتلى على المشركين آيات الله التي أنزلناها إليك -أيها الرسول- واضحات، قال الذين لا يخافون الحساب، ولا يرجون الثواب، ولا يؤمنون بيوم البعث والنشور: ائت بقرآن غير هذا، أو بدِّل هذا القرآن: بأن تجعل الحلال حرامًا، والحرام حلالا والوعد وعيدًا، والوعيد وعدًا، وأن تُسْقط ما فيه مِن عيب آلهتنا وتسفيه أحلامنا، قل لهم -أيها الرسول-: إن ذلك ليس إليَّ، وإنما أتبع…
