Entering into a relationship with another man when the husband is impotent
Question
Question: I was married to a man named Ghulam Ahmad; roughly twelve or thirteen years have passed since then. For a few days my said husband kept me with him as his wife, and from this it became clear that he is not capable with a woman. After a few days my husband took me to my father’s house, and to this day he has never seen to my expenses.
Answer
Until your husband Ghulam Ahmad gives talaq, your nikah elsewhere is not valid. As for the claim that a wife passes out of the nikah if she does something that displeases her husband or damages his chastity (‘iffa), it is entirely wrong; in the Shari‘a it has no basis whatsoever.
