A woman runs away with a non-mahram and then wishes to come back and live with her husband: what is the ruling?
Question
Question: Zayd’s daughter ran away with a non-mahram man, taking money and jewellery; it came to light after several days. Now, if Zayd keeps her at home, there is great disgrace: the whole biradari (kinship community) heaps curses and taunts. The husband’s family also does not want to take the girl back. Zayd is greatly distressed: should he kill the girl, or put her to death by giving her poison? If the husband wishes to take the girl back, should they send her or not?
Answer
Giving poison and killing are not permitted. If the husband takes her, then certainly send her immediately.
