Talaq in Anger

Question

Today my wife acted against my order, because of which I wanted to reprimand her, and my anger had grown intense; but my sons seized me, and despite my efforts I could not break free from them, which made my rage grow even more, and it was possible that some violent assault would have been made on her. The said woman kept on using abusive language in this situation. At that moment nothing was under my control except my tongue. I said to her three times: “میں نے تم کو طلاق دیا” (“I have given you talaq”)

Answer

In the case asked about, according to the Shari‘a three talaqs have taken effect and it has become a major (mughallaza) divorce; now it is not permissible to keep her without halala. Just as talaq takes effect in a state of contentment, it also takes effect in a state of anger.
