Reciting “La Hawla” Forty Times on Laylat al-Bara’a

Question

In some books it is written that after sunset one should recite “La hawla wa la quwwata illa bi-Llahi’l-‘Aliyyi’l-‘Azim” forty times. What is the ruling on this?

Answer

“La hawla wa la quwwata illa bi-Llahi’l-‘Aliyyi’l-‘Azim” is a most exalted dhikr, granted from the special treasury of Paradise and the Throne; reciting it abundantly is most beneficial, and it is beneficial at any time it is recited. However, the restriction to forty times specifically after sunset is not established by sound hadiths.
