Voluntary (nafl) i'tikaf

Question

What is the ruling on staying in the mosque with the intention of voluntary (nafl) i'tikaf on days other than the blessed month of Ramadan?

Answer

Voluntary i'tikaf can also take place outside Ramadan, and it is correct for such a mu'takif (one observing i'tikaf) as well to stay in the mosque (“Shami”, vol. 2, p. 129).
