Qualities required for leading the prayer
Question
A eunuch was removed from the imamate and a man who is not a eunuch was appointed imam. However, this non-eunuch does not attend the fajr prayer; rather, he — the eunuch (the former imam) — and other eunuch followers are present (some of the followers are not eunuchs as well). Can this eunuch, the former imam, lead the fajr prayer on a temporary basis?
Answer
The one to be appointed imam is the person who is the most worthy among all the worshippers: the one most knowledgeable about the rulings of purification (tahara) and prayer, who follows the Shari‘a and recites the Noble Qur’an correctly.
