A Chick Dropped by a Kite: What Should Be Done with It?

Question

Bakr rescued a chick from the talons of a kite, or the kite itself dropped the chick into his courtyard. Bakr fed this chick, reared it and raised it to full size. What is its status now?

Answer

If even after searching the owner cannot be traced, he should give it to some poor person; if he himself is poor, he may keep it himself as well. When the owner becomes known, he should give it to him. Thus in “al-Bahr al-Ra’iq”.
