Mawlana Muhammad Isma’il Dehlawi Shahid and His Books

Question

Is it appropriate to read the writings of the respected Mawlana Muhammad Isma‘il Dehlawi, or not? People raise objections against his famous books “Taqwiyat al-Iman” and “Sirat al-Mustaqim”; therefore please inform [us] of the correct ruling.

Answer

Mawlana Muhammad Isma‘il Shahid was a very great follower of the sunna, a scholar possessing a spiritual connection, and the nephew and student of the respected Hazrat Shah ‘Abd al-‘Aziz, Muhaddith of Delhi; he was the grandson of Hazrat Shah Wali Allah, Muhaddith of Delhi.
