Women braiding their hair into plaits

Question

To what extent is it permissible to braid the hair of the head into a single plait and to put on a “clip”?

Answer

As for the “clip”, I did not understand what it is. Yes, braiding the hair of the head into plaits, which in Arabic are called dafa’ir (ضفائر), is sunna, as is narrated in Sahih Muslim from Hazrat Umm Salama ﵂: [ar]عن أم سلمة ﵂ قالت: قلت: يا رسول الله، إني امرأة أشد ضفرا، أفأنقضه لغسل الجنابة؟
