The Holy Quran 9:96 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

يَحْلِفُونَ لَكُمْ لِتَرْضَوْا۟ عَنْهُمْ ۖ فَإِن تَرْضَوْا۟ عَنْهُمْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَرْضَىٰ عَنِ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ

Translation

They swear (oaths) before you (O Rasulullaah) so that you may be pleased with them. (However,) Even if you are pleased with them, Allaah is certainly not pleased with the disobedient ones (Muslims should therefore not maintain close ties with such people).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

يحلف لكم -أيها المؤمنون- هؤلاء المنافقون كذبًا; لتَرضَوا عنهم، فإن رضيتم عنهم -لأنكم لا تعلمون كذبهم- فإن الله لا يرضى عن هؤلاء ولا غيرهم ممن استمروا على الفسوق والخروج عن طاعة الله ورسوله.
