The Holy Quran 9:67 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَ وَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقَـٰتُ بَعْضُهُم مِّنۢ بَعْضٍ ۚ يَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْمُنكَرِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَقْبِضُونَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ ۚ نَسُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ فَنَسِيَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ هُمُ ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ

Translation

The hypocrite men and women are from each another (they are all alike in belief and deed). They command (others to do) evil, prevent good and withhold their hands (from spending in charity). They forget Allaah, and He does not bother with them (He does not bother to shower His special mercy on them). Indeed the hypocrites are the sinners (guilty of the worst crime of kufr).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

المنافقون والمنافقات صنف واحد في إعلانهم الإيمان واستبطانهم الكفر، يأمرون بالكفر بالله ومعصية رسوله وينهون عن الإيمان والطاعة، ويمسكون أيديهم عن النفقة في سبيل الله، نسوا الله فلا يذكرونه، فنسيهم من رحمته، فلم يوفقهم إلى خير. إن المنافقين هم الخارجون عن الإيمان بالله ورسوله.
