The Holy Quran 9:37 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

إِنَّمَا ٱلنَّسِىٓءُ زِيَادَةٌ فِى ٱلْكُفْرِ ۖ يُضَلُّ بِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُحِلُّونَهُۥ عَامًا وَيُحَرِّمُونَهُۥ عَامًا لِّيُوَاطِـُٔوا۟ عِدَّةَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ فَيُحِلُّوا۟ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ زُيِّنَ لَهُمْ سُوٓءُ أَعْمَـٰلِهِمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

Translation

(During the Period of Ignorance, when the Mushrikeen were engaged in a battle and when any of the Sacred Months approached, they used to say falsely that the coming month will be one of the non-Sacred Months so that they could continue fighting. In this manner, the calendar was distorted. Referring to this practice of theirs, Allaah says,) Postponing (the Sacred Months) is only an increase in kufr by which the Kuffaar go (further) astray. During some years they (the Kuffaar) declare these months to be lawful (non-sacred) while during other years they declare them to be sacred so as to complete the count of the months that Allaah had made sacred (so that there remains four Scared Months in every year). (By doing this,) They make lawful what Allaah had forbidden (fighting during the sacred Months). Their evil actions have been beautified for them (so that they think that they are doing good). Allaah does not guide people who do not have Imaan (as long as they have no desire for Imaan).

إن الذي كانت تفعله العرب في الجاهلية من تحريم أربعة أشهر من السنة عددًا لا تحديدًا بأسماء الأشهر التي حرَّمها الله، فيؤخرون بعضها أو يقدِّمونه ويجعلون مكانه من أشهر الحل ما أرادوا حسب حاجتهم للقتال، إن ذلك زيادة في الكفر، يضل الشيطان به الذين كفروا، يحلون الذي أخروا تحريمه من الأشهر الأربعة عامًا، ويحرمونه عاما; ليوافقوا عدد الشهور الأربعة، فيحلوا ما حرَّم…
