The Holy Quran 9:24 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

قُلْ إِن كَانَ ءَابَآؤُكُمْ وَأَبْنَآؤُكُمْ وَإِخْوَٰنُكُمْ وَأَزْوَٰجُكُمْ وَعَشِيرَتُكُمْ وَأَمْوَٰلٌ ٱقْتَرَفْتُمُوهَا وَتِجَـٰرَةٌ تَخْشَوْنَ كَسَادَهَا وَمَسَـٰكِنُ تَرْضَوْنَهَآ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَجِهَادٍ فِى سَبِيلِهِۦ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِىَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَمْرِهِۦ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ

Translation

Say, "If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your spouses, your families, your wealth that you have earned, your businesses in which you fear a loss, and your home that you love so dearly are more beloved to you than Allaah, His Rasool ﷺ and exerting yourselves (striving) in His path; then wait for Allaah's order (punishment) to come. Allaah does not guide the sinful ones." (If these things prevent you from obeying Allaah and Rasulullaah ﷺ and from exerting yourselves for Deen when it is obligatory, then Allaah's punishment is imminent.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

قل -يا أيها الرسول- للمؤمنين: إن فَضَّلتم الآباء والأبناء والإخوان والزوجات والقرابات والأموال التي جمعتموها والتجارة التي تخافون عدم رواجها والبيوت الفارهة التي أقمتم فيها، إن فَضَّلتم ذلك على حب الله ورسوله والجهاد في سبيله فانتظروا عقاب الله ونكاله بكم. والله لا يوفق الخارجين عن طاعته.
