The Holy Quran 7:94 — Surah Al-A'raf

Arabic text

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا فِى قَرْيَةٍ مِّن نَّبِىٍّ إِلَّآ أَخَذْنَآ أَهْلَهَا بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَضَّرَّعُونَ

Translation

Whenever We sent any Nabi to a town (and they rejected his message), We seized its inhabitants with hardships (such as famine and misery) and difficulties (distress) so that they become humble (and then accept Imaan).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وما أرسلنا في قرية من نبي يدعوهم إلى عبادة الله، وينهاهم عمَّا هم فيه من الشرك، فكذَّبه قومه، إلا ابتليناهم بالبأساء والضراء، فأصبناهم في أبدانهم بالأمراض والأسقام، وفي أموالهم بالفقر والحاجة; رجاء أن يستكينوا، وينيبوا إلى الله، ويرجعوا إلى الحق.
