The Holy Quran 7:187 — Surah Al-A'raf

Arabic text

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَا ۖ قُلْ إِنَّمَا عِلْمُهَا عِندَ رَبِّى ۖ لَا يُجَلِّيهَا لِوَقْتِهَآ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ ثَقُلَتْ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ لَا تَأْتِيكُمْ إِلَّا بَغْتَةً ۗ يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ كَأَنَّكَ حَفِىٌّ عَنْهَا ۖ قُلْ إِنَّمَا عِلْمُهَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Translation

They ask you (O Muhammad ﷺ) about Qiyaamah, when will it occur? Say, "The knowledge of this is with my Rabb (only Allaah knows when it will occur). Only He will make it appear it on its time. It (the occurrence of Qiyaamah) will be weighty on the heavens and the earth and will appear suddenly." They ask you as if you have perfect knowledge of it. Say, "The knowledge of this is only with Allaah, but most people do not know." (We are aware of only the signs of Qiyaamah, as mentioned by Rasulullaah ﷺ)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

يسألك -أيها الرسول- كفار «مكة» عن الساعة متى قيامها؟ قل لهم: عِلْمُ قيامها عند الله لا يظهرها إلا هو، ثَقُلَ علمها، وخفي على أهل السموات والأرض، فلا يعلم وقت قيامها ملَك مقرَّب ولا نبي مرسل، لا تجيء الساعة إلا فجأة، يسألك هؤلاء القوم عنها كأنك حريص على العلم بها، مستقص بالسؤال عنها، قل لهم: إنما علمها عند الله الذي يعلم غيب السموات والأرض، ولكنَّ أكثر الناس…
