The Holy Quran 68:17 — Surah Al-Qalam

Arabic text

إِنَّا بَلَوْنَـٰهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا۟ لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ

Translation

Verily We have tested them (the Mushrikeen of Makkah whose wealth and children caused them to become arrogant) as We tested the people of the orchard (a few brothers who owned an orchard) when they swore that they will pluck the fruit (very early) in the morning (so that they would not have to give any of the produce to the poor who usually gathered there for a share)...

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

إنا اختبرنا أهل «مكة» بالجوع والقحط، كما اختبرنا أصحاب الحديقة حين حلفوا فيما بينهم، ليقطعُنَّ ثمار حديقتهم مبكِّرين في الصباح، فلا يَطْعَم منها غيرهم من المساكين ونحوهم، ولم يقولوا: إن شاء الله.
