The Holy Quran 60:4 — Surah Al-Mumtahanah

Arabic text

قَدْ كَانَتْ لَكُمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ فِىٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ إِذْ قَالُوا۟ لِقَوْمِهِمْ إِنَّا بُرَءَٰٓؤُا۟ مِنكُمْ وَمِمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَفَرْنَا بِكُمْ وَبَدَا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْعَدَٰوَةُ وَٱلْبَغْضَآءُ أَبَدًا حَتَّىٰ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَحْدَهُۥٓ إِلَّا قَوْلَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ لَأَسْتَغْفِرَنَّ لَكَ وَمَآ أَمْلِكُ لَكَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَىْءٍ ۖ رَّبَّنَا عَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

Translation

There was certainly a sterling (good) example for you in Ibraheem عليه الصلاة والسلام and those who followed him when they said to their people, “We absolve (free) ourselves from you and from that which you worship apart from Allaah. We reject you (your beliefs and acts of Shirk). Enmity and hatred have surfaced (has become bare) between yourselves and us forever (because of the irreconcilable differences in our beliefs, and this will continue) until you believe in One Allaah." (The words of Ibraheem عليه الصلاة والسلام and his followers to the Kuffaar expressed their disassociation from them) Except for the statement (saying) of Ibraheem عليه الصلاة والسلام to his father when he said, "I shall definitely pray (to Allaah) for (Him to bless you with Imaan and thereby secure) your forgiveness. (Besides making du'aa to Allaah that He blesses you with Imaan,) I have no power to do anything for you against (the punishment of) Allaah. O our Rabb! In You do we trust, to You do we turn (in repentance) and to You shall we return (after death)."

قد كانت لكم -أيها المؤمنون- قدوة حسنة في إبراهيم عليه السلام والذين معه من المؤمنين، حين قالوا لقومهم الكافرين بالله: إنا بريئون منكم وممَّا تعبدون من دون الله من الآلهة والأنداد، كفرنا بكم، وأنكرنا ما أنتم عليه من الكفر، وظهر بيننا وبينكم العداوة والبغضاء أبدًا ما دمتم على كفركم، حتى تؤمنوا بالله وحده، لكن لا يدخل في الاقتداء استغفار إبراهيم لأبيه; فإن ذلك…
