The Holy Quran 5:91 — Surah Al-Ma'idah

Arabic text

إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ أَن يُوقِعَ بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْعَدَٰوَةَ وَٱلْبَغْضَآءَ فِى ٱلْخَمْرِ وَٱلْمَيْسِرِ وَيَصُدَّكُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ وَعَنِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ ۖ فَهَلْ أَنتُم مُّنتَهُونَ

Translation

Shaytaan wants only to cast (breed) enmity and hatred between you by means of liquor (intoxicants) and gambling and wants to prevent you from the remembrance of Allaah and salaah (by involving you in these evils). So will you not abstain (from these evil which cause disputes between you)?

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

إنما يريد الشيطان بتزيين الآثام لكم أن يُلقِي بينكم ما يوجد العداوة والبغضاء، بسبب شرب الخمر ولعب الميسر، ويصرفكم عن ذكر الله وعن الصلاة بغياب العقل في شرب الخمر، والاشتغال باللهو في لعب الميسر، فانتهوا عن ذلك.
