The Holy Quran 5:1 — Surah Al-Ma'idah

Arabic text

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَوْفُوا۟ بِٱلْعُقُودِ ۚ أُحِلَّتْ لَكُم بَهِيمَةُ ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ إِلَّا مَا يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ غَيْرَ مُحِلِّى ٱلصَّيْدِ وَأَنتُمْ حُرُمٌ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَحْكُمُ مَا يُرِيدُ

Translation

O you who have Imaan (who recognise and submit to Allaah), fulfil your pledges (those promises and contracts that you make with Allaah as well as those that you make with people). Permitted for you (to eat) are livestock animals (cattle, camels, goats, sheep) except what has been recited to you (in the Qur'aan, such as verse 3 of this Surah). (The hunting of) Game is (also) unlawful for you when you are in the state of Ihraam. Verily Allaah commands what He wills (He is All Wise, above questioning).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

يا أيها الذين صدَّقوا الله ورسوله وعملوا بشرعه، أتِمُّوا عهود الله الموثقة، من الإيمان بشرائع الدين، والانقياد لها، وأَدُّوا العهود لبعضكم على بعض من الأمانات، والبيوع وغيرها، مما لم يخالف كتاب الله، وسنة رسوله محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم.
