The Holy Quran 57:14 — Surah Al-Hadid

Arabic text

يُنَادُونَهُمْ أَلَمْ نَكُن مَّعَكُمْ ۖ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ وَلَـٰكِنَّكُمْ فَتَنتُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَتَرَبَّصْتُمْ وَٱرْتَبْتُمْ وَغَرَّتْكُمُ ٱلْأَمَانِىُّ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ وَغَرَّكُم بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْغَرُورُ

Translation

They (the hypocrites) will call out to them (the Mu'mineen, saying), "Were we not (living) with you (in the world)?" They (the Mu'mineen) will reply, "Certainly, but (instead of sharing the true Imaan we had,) you trapped (by temptation) yourselves in deviation (and temptation, thereby remaining Kuffaar by heart), you laid in wait (to harm us at the first opportunity), you doubted (the truth of Islaam) and (worthless) hopes (that Islaam will perish some day) deceived you until Allaah's command (death) arrived. And (in addition to this) the deceiver (Shaytaan) deceived (misguided) you about Allaah (assuring you that Allaah will not punish you)."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ينادي المنافقون المؤمنين قائلين: ألم نكن معكم في الدنيا، نؤدي شعائر الدين مثلكم؟ قال المؤمنون لهم: بلى قد كنتم معنا في الظاهر، ولكنكم أهلكتم أنفسكم بالنفاق والمعاصي، وتربصتم بالنبي الموت وبالمؤمنين الدوائر، وشككتم في البعث بعد الموت، وخدعتكم أمانيكم الباطلة، وبقيتم على ذلك حتى جاءكم الموت وخدعكم بالله الشيطان.
