The Holy Quran 57:10 — Surah Al-Hadid

Arabic text

وَمَا لَكُمْ أَلَّا تُنفِقُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِلَّهِ مِيرَٰثُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ لَا يَسْتَوِى مِنكُم مَّنْ أَنفَقَ مِن قَبْلِ ٱلْفَتْحِ وَقَـٰتَلَ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَعْظَمُ دَرَجَةً مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنفَقُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدُ وَقَـٰتَلُوا۟ ۚ وَكُلًّا وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ

Translation

Why is it that you do not spend in Allaah's way (to please Allaah) when the inheritance of the heavens and the earth belongs to Him? (Whatever you have in this world is only as a temporary owner. After all the temporary owners of possessions and properties die, it will be only Allaah Who will be Alive to take complete ownership of everything. Therefore, whatever wealth you hold back will be His eventually without benefiting you. For this reason, it is wise to rather spend whatever you can for His pleasure so that you can earn rewards for it.) None of you (Muslims) can equal (the rewards of) those (Sahabah رضي الله تعالى عنهم) who spent (for Allaah's pleasure) and fought (in battle) before the conquest (of Makkah because their spending and fighting were against tremendous odds). These people are greater in status (higher in rank) than those who spent and fought after (the conquest of Makkah). However, Allaah has promised good (Jannah) for all and Allaah is Informed of what you do.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وأيُّ شيء يمنعكم من الإنفاق في سبيل الله؟ ولله ميراث السموات والأرض يرث كلَّ ما فيهما، ولا يبقى أحد مالكًا لشيء فيهما. لا يستوي في الأجر والمثوبة منكم مَن أنفق من قبل فتح «مكة» وقاتل الكفار، أولئك أعظم درجة عند الله من الذين أنفقوا في سبيل الله من بعد الفتح وقاتلوا الكفار، وكلا من الفريقين وعد الله الجنة، والله بأعمالكم خبير لا يخفى عليه شيء منها، وسيجازيكم…
