The Holy Quran 4:78 — Surah An-Nisa

Arabic text

أَيْنَمَا تَكُونُوا۟ يُدْرِككُّمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ وَلَوْ كُنتُمْ فِى بُرُوجٍ مُّشَيَّدَةٍ ۗ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ حَسَنَةٌ يَقُولُوا۟ هَـٰذِهِۦ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ يَقُولُوا۟ هَـٰذِهِۦ مِنْ عِندِكَ ۚ قُلْ كُلٌّ مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ فَمَالِ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ٱلْقَوْمِ لَا يَكَادُونَ يَفْقَهُونَ حَدِيثًا

Translation

Wherever you may be (whether fighting in Jihaad or sitting at home), death (is definite and) will find you even though you are in high (reinforced) towers (forts). If a good thing happens to them (the Jews), they say, "This is from Allaah!" (However) When some misfortune befalls them they say, "This is because of you (O Muhammad ﷺ)!" Tell them, “Everything (good and bad) is from Allaah!" What is the matter (wrong) with these people that they do not seem to understand anything? (They do not understand that Allaah tries people with difficult circumstances to see whether they exercise patience or not.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

أينما تكونوا يلحقكم الموت في أي مكان كنتم فيه عند حلول آجالكم، ولو كنتم في حصون منيعة بعيدة عن ساحة المعارك والقتال. وإن يحصل لهم ما يسرُّهم من متاع هذه الحياة، ينسبوا حصوله إلى الله تعالى، وإن يقع عليهم ما يكرهونه ينسبوه إلى الرسول محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم جهالة وتشاؤمًا، وما علموا أن ذلك كله من عند الله وحده، بقضائه وقدره، فما بالهم لا يقاربون فَهْمَ أيِّ…
