The Holy Quran 4:144 — Surah An-Nisa

Arabic text

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۚ أَتُرِيدُونَ أَن تَجْعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ سُلْطَـٰنًا مُّبِينًا

Translation

O you who have Imaan! Choose not the Kaafiroon as friends in place of the Mu'mineen. Do you wish that Allaah establishes a clear proof against you (which will label you a hypocrite, thereby condemning you to Jahannam)?

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

يا أيها الذين صدَّقوا الله ورسوله وعملوا بشرعه، لا توالوا الجاحدين لدين الله، وتتركوا موالاة المؤمنين ومودتهم. أتريدون بمودَّة أعدائكم أن تجعلوا لله تعالى عليكم حجة ظاهرة على عدم صدقكم في إيمانكم؟
