The Holy Quran 47:38 — Surah Muhammad

Arabic text

هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ تُدْعَوْنَ لِتُنفِقُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَمِنكُم مَّن يَبْخَلُ ۖ وَمَن يَبْخَلْ فَإِنَّمَا يَبْخَلُ عَن نَّفْسِهِۦ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ ٱلْغَنِىُّ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلْفُقَرَآءُ ۚ وَإِن تَتَوَلَّوْا۟ يَسْتَبْدِلْ قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَكُونُوٓا۟ أَمْثَـٰلَكُم

Translation

Behold! You (Muslims) are the very ones who are summoned (called) to spend in Allaah's way but there are those among you who are miserly (who do not give). Those who are miserly practise miserliness to their own detriment. Allaah is Independent and you are all needy (totally dependent on Him). If you turn away (from obeying Him), He (will not at all be affected because He) will substitute you with another nation who will not be like yourselves (but who will do exactly as He orders).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ها أنتم -أيها المؤمنون- تُدْعَون إلى النفقة في جهاد أعداء الله ونصرة دينه، فمنكم مَن يَبْخَلُ بالنفقة في سبيل الله، ومَن يَبْخَلْ فإنما يبخل عن نفسه، والله تعالى هو الغنيُّ عنكم وأنتم الفقراء إليه، وإن تتولوا عن الإيمان بالله وامتثال أمره يهلكُّم، ويأت بقوم آخرين، ثم لا يكونوا أمثالكم في التولي عن أمر الله، بل يطيعونه ويطيعون رسوله، ويجاهدون في سبيله…
