The Holy Quran 43:57 — Surah Az-Zukhruf

Arabic text

۞ وَلَمَّا ضُرِبَ ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ مَثَلًا إِذَا قَوْمُكَ مِنْهُ يَصِدُّونَ

Translation

(O Rasulullaah ﷺ!) When the unique example of the son of Maryam (Isa عليه الصلاة والسلام) is mentioned, (when you tell the Mushrikeen that there is no benefit in all the gods that they worship, someone of them say that there is therefore no good in worshipping Isa as well, whom some Christians worship,) your people suddenly start arguing (in support of this objection).

ولما ضرب المشركون عيسى بن مريم مثلا حين خاصموا محمدا صلى الله عليه وسلم، وحاجُّوه بعبادة النصارى إياه، إذا قومك من ذلك ولأجله يرتفع لهم جَلَبة وضجيج فرحًا وسرورًا، وذلك عندما نزل قوله تعالى {إِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ حَصَبُ جَهَنَّمَ أَنْتُمْ لَهَا وَارِدُونَ} ، وقال المشركون: رضينا أن تكون آلهتنا بمنزلة عيسى، فأنزل الله قوله: {إِنَّ…
