The Holy Quran 43:17 — Surah Az-Zukhruf

Arabic text

وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِمَا ضَرَبَ لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ مَثَلًا ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُۥ مُسْوَدًّا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ

Translation

(In fact, they regard having daughters as such a disgrace that) When any of them is given the tidings of (the birth of) that which they ascribe to Rahmaan (a daughter), his face darkens (with anger, gloom and displeasure) as he suppresses his emotions.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وإذا بُشِّر أحدهم بالأنثى -التي نسبها للرحمن حين زعم أن الملائكة بنات الله- صار وجهه مُسْوَدَّا من سوء البشارة بالأنثى، وهو حزين مملوء من الهم والكرب. فكيف يرضون لله ما لا يرضونه لأنفسهم؟ تعالى الله وتقدَّس عما يقول الكافرون علوًا كبيرًا.
