The Holy Quran 40:22 — Surah Ghafir

Arabic text

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانَت تَّأْتِيهِمْ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَكَفَرُوا۟ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ قَوِىٌّ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ

Translation

This (punishment) came because Our Rusul used to come to them with clear signs (to prove that they were true Ambiyaa عليهم الصلاة والسلام), but they (the Kuffaar) rejected (their claim and message). So (Because of their kufr, the punishment of) Allaah seized them. Undoubtedly, He is Powerful, Severe in punishment.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ذلك العذاب الذي حلَّ بالمكذبين السابقين، كان بسبب موقفهم من رسل الله الذين جاؤوا بالدلائل القاطعة على صدق دعواهم، فكفروا بهم، وكذَّبوهم، فأخذهم الله بعقابه، إنه سبحانه قوي لا يغلبه أحد، شديد العقاب لمن كفر به وعصاه.
