The Holy Quran 3:127 — Surah Ali 'Imran

Arabic text

لِيَقْطَعَ طَرَفًا مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَوْ يَكْبِتَهُمْ فَيَنقَلِبُوا۟ خَآئِبِينَ

Translation

(Allaah had granted this assistance for your confidence and courage and also so) That He may destroy a party of the Kaafiroon (when they are killed or captured in battle) or disgrace (humiliate and defeat) them (when they lose the battle despite being better equipped) so they return as losers (defeated and humiliated).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وكان نصر الله لكم بـ «بدْر» ليهلك فريقًا من الكفار بالقتل، ومن نجا منهم من القتل رجع حزينًا قد ضاقت عليه نفسه، يَظْهر عليه الخزي والعار.
