The Holy Quran 36:8 — Surah Ya-Sin

Arabic text

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِىٓ أَعْنَـٰقِهِمْ أَغْلَـٰلًا فَهِىَ إِلَى ٱلْأَذْقَانِ فَهُم مُّقْمَحُونَ

Translation

(When they reach the Aakhirah,) We shall place a yoke (collar) around their necks, which reaches to their chins, so that their gazes are fixed upwards (a scene symbolic of their arrogance in this world which deprived them from looking down and seeing the straight path).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

إنا جعلنا هؤلاء الكفار الذين عُرض عليهم الحق فردُّوه، وأصرُّوا على الكفر وعدم الإيمان، كمن جُعِل في أعناقهم أغلال، فجمعت أيديهم مع أعناقهم تحت أذقانهم، فاضطروا إلى رفع رؤوسهم إلى السماء، فهم مغلولون عن كل خير، لا يبصرون الحق ولا يهتدون إليه.
