The Holy Quran 36:39 — Surah Ya-Sin

Arabic text

وَٱلْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنَـٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَٱلْعُرْجُونِ ٱلْقَدِيمِ

Translation

We have stipulated (determined) stations (phases) for the (waxing and waning of the) moon, until (after it passes the waning phase at the end of the month) it returns (to a state when it looks) like a branch of an old date palm.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

والقمرَ آية في خلقه، قدَّرناه منازل كل ليلة، يبدأ هلالا ضئيلا حتى يكمل قمرًا مستديرًا، ثم يرجع ضئيلا مثل عِذْق النخلة المتقوس في الرقة والانحناء والصفرة؛ لقدمه ويُبْسه.
