The Holy Quran 33:55 — Surah Al-Ahzab

Arabic text

لَّا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِنَّ فِىٓ ءَابَآئِهِنَّ وَلَآ أَبْنَآئِهِنَّ وَلَآ إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ وَلَآ أَبْنَآءِ إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ وَلَآ أَبْنَآءِ أَخَوَٰتِهِنَّ وَلَا نِسَآئِهِنَّ وَلَا مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُنَّ ۗ وَٱتَّقِينَ ٱللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدًا

Translation

There is no sin on them (the wives of Nabi and all Muslim women as well) for (openly speaking to and being seen by) their fathers, their sons, their brothers, the sons of their brothers, the sons of their sisters, their fellow women and their slave women. (However), They should fear Allaah (and still cover the necessary parts of their bodies). Indeed Allaah is Witness over everything.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

لا إثم على النساء في عدم الاحتجاب من آبائهن وأبنائهن وإخوانهن وأبناء إخوانهن وأبناء أخواتهن والنساء المؤمنات والعبيد المملوكين لهن؛ لشدة الحاجة إليهم في الخدمة. وخفن الله -أيتها النساء- أن تتعدَّيْن ما حَدَّ لكنَّ، فتبدين من زينتكن ما ليس لكُنَّ أن تبدينه، أو تتركن الحجاب أمام مَن يجب عليكن الاحتجاب منه.
