The Holy Quran 32:21 — Surah As-Sajdah

Arabic text

وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم مِّنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْأَدْنَىٰ دُونَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْأَكْبَرِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ

Translation

We shall definitely let them taste the closer (lesser) punishment (punishment in this world) before the greater punishment (in the Aakhirah) so that they may (realise the error of their ways and) return (to the path of Imaan and righteousness).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ولنذيقن هؤلاء الفاسقين المكذبين من العذاب الأدنى من البلاء والمحن والمصائب في الدنيا قبل العذاب الأكبر يوم القيامة، حيث يُعذَّبون في نار جهنم؛ لعلهم يرجعون ويتوبون من ذنوبهم.
