The Holy Quran 30:36 — Surah Ar-Rum

Arabic text

وَإِذَآ أَذَقْنَا ٱلنَّاسَ رَحْمَةً فَرِحُوا۟ بِهَا ۖ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ إِذَا هُمْ يَقْنَطُونَ

Translation

When We allow people to taste Our mercy (by showering Our favours on them), they rejoice (boast) about it. However, when any difficulty (evil) afflicts them because of the sins they commit, they suddenly lose hope (of ever recovering from the difficulty, thereby indicating that they have no reliance in Allaah).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وإذا أذقنا الناس منا نعمة مِن صحة وعافية ورخاء، فرحوا بذلك فرح بطرٍ وأَشَرٍ، لا فرح شكر، وإن يصبهم مرض وفقر وخوف وضيق بسبب ذنوبهم ومعاصيهم، إذا هم يَيْئَسون من زوال ذلك، وهذا طبيعة أكثر الناس في الرخاء والشدة.
