The Holy Quran 2:88 — Surah Al-Baqarah

Arabic text

وَقَالُوا۟ قُلُوبُنَا غُلْفٌۢ ۚ بَل لَّعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِكُفْرِهِمْ فَقَلِيلًا مَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ

Translation

They (the Jews mockingly) say (to Rasulullaah), "Our hearts are covered (in a veil so we cannot understand what you say)." Not at all! (The truth is that) Allaah has cursed them (removed them from His mercy and rejected them) because of their disbelief (and not because of any covering on their hearts). As a result, there are very few of them who have Imaan.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وقال بنو إسرائيل لنبي الله ورسوله محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم: قلوبنا مغطاة، لا يَنْفُذ إليها قولك. وليس الأمر كما ادَّعَوْا، بل قلوبهم ملعونة، مطبوع عليها، وهم مطرودون من رحمة الله بسبب جحودهم، فلا يؤمنون إلا إيمانًا قليلا لا ينفعهم.
