The Holy Quran 2:75 — Surah Al-Baqarah

Arabic text

۞ أَفَتَطْمَعُونَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ لَكُمْ وَقَدْ كَانَ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ كَلَـٰمَ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ يُحَرِّفُونَهُۥ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا عَقَلُوهُ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ

Translation

(O Mu'mineen) Do you still hope that they (the Jews) will have Imaan for your sake when there is a party from them (their Rabbis as well as those who went to Mount Toor with Moosa and heard Allaah speak) who listen to Allaah's speech (the Torah) and then purposely alter it after understanding it? (Entertain no such hopes because they will not follow you in Imaan.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

أيها المسلمون أنسيتم أفعال بني إسرائيل، فطمعت نفوسكم أن يصدِّق اليهودُ بدينكم؟ وقد كان علماؤهم يسمعون كلام الله من التوراة، ثم يحرفونه بِصَرْفِه إلى غير معناه الصحيح بعد ما عقلوا حقيقته، أو بتحريف ألفاظه، وهم يعلمون أنهم يحرفون كلام رب العالمين عمدًا وكذبًا.
