The Holy Quran 2:225 — Surah Al-Baqarah

Arabic text

لَّا يُؤَاخِذُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِٱللَّغْوِ فِىٓ أَيْمَـٰنِكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن يُؤَاخِذُكُم بِمَا كَسَبَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ حَلِيمٌ

Translation

Allaah will not call you to account (task) for your futile (unintentional) oaths, but will call you to account for (breaking) those (oaths) which your hearts intend (intentionally taken oaths). Allaah is Most Forgiving, Most Forbearing (Most Tolerant perhaps you will repent).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

لا يعاقبكم الله بسبب أيمانكم التي تحلفونها بغير قصد، ولكن يعاقبكم بما قصدَتْه قلوبكم. والله غفور لمن تاب إليه، حليم بمن عصاه حيث لم يعاجله بالعقوبة.
