The Holy Quran 2:171 — Surah Al-Baqarah

Arabic text

وَمَثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ كَمَثَلِ ٱلَّذِى يَنْعِقُ بِمَا لَا يَسْمَعُ إِلَّا دُعَآءً وَنِدَآءً ۚ صُمٌّۢ بُكْمٌ عُمْىٌ فَهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ

Translation

The comparison of those who commit kufr (and those calling them to Islaam) is like a person who calls something (some animal) that can hear only a call and a sound (without understanding what is being said). Deaf, dumb and blind, they cannot understand (neither do they have knowledge nor do they want to hear what the knowledgeable people say).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وصفة الذين كفروا ودَاعِيهم إلى الهدى والإيمان كصفة الرَّاعي الذي يصيح بالبهائم ويزجرها، وهي لا تفهم معاني كلامه، وإنما تسمع النداء ودَوِيَّ الصوت فقط. هؤلاء الكفار صُمٌّ سدُّوا أسماعهم عن الحق، بُكْم أخرسوا ألسنتهم عن النطق به، عُمْي لا ترى أعينهم براهينه الباهرة، فهم لا يعملون عقولهم فيما ينفعهم.
