The Holy Quran 29:64 — Surah Al-'Ankabut

Arabic text

وَمَا هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَآ إِلَّا لَهْوٌ وَلَعِبٌ ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلدَّارَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ لَهِىَ ٱلْحَيَوَانُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ

Translation

The life of this world is (but a) mere futility and play (temporary and without true benefit). Without doubt, the life of the Aakhirah is true (real) life (an existence of true happiness). If only they knew (If people understood this, they would not give preference to this world over the Aakhirah).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وما هذه الحياة الدنيا إلا لهو ولعب، تلهو بها القلوب وتلعب بها الأبدان; بسبب ما فيها من الزينة والشهوات، ثم تزول سريعًا، وإن الدار الآخرة لهي الحياة الحقيقية الدائمة التي لا موت فيها، لو كان الناس يعلمون ذلك لما آثروا دار الفناء على دار البقاء.
