The Holy Quran 29:40 — Surah Al-'Ankabut

Arabic text

فَكُلًّا أَخَذْنَا بِذَنۢبِهِۦ ۖ فَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ حَاصِبًا وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَخَذَتْهُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ خَسَفْنَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَغْرَقْنَا ۚ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

Translation

We seized (punished) each of them on account of his sin. Against one of them (the Aad) We sent a violent (pebble storm) wind (to destroy them). One of them (the Thamud) was seized (destroyed) by a shout (loud screech). One of them (Qaaroon) was swallowed by the ground and we drowned another (Fir'oun and his army). Allaah was never One to oppress them (by punishing them without first sending guidance to them), but they used to oppress (wrong) themselves (by refusing to accept the guidance that came to them).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فأخذنا كلا من هؤلاء المذكورين بعذابنا بسبب ذنبه: فمنهم الذين أرسلنا عليهم ريحاً شديدة ترميهم بحجارة من طين متتابع، وهم قوم لوط، ومنهم مَن أخذته الصيحة، وهم قوم صالح وقوم شعيب، ومنهم مَن خسفنا به الأرض كقارون، ومنهم مَن أغرقنا، وهم قومُ نوح وفرعونُ وقومُه، ولم يكن الله ليهلك هؤلاء بذنوب غيرهم، فيظلمهم بإهلاكه إياهم بغير استحقاق، ولكنهم كانوا أنفسهم يظلمون…
