The Holy Quran 28:76 — Surah Al-Qasas

Arabic text

۞ إِنَّ قَـٰرُونَ كَانَ مِن قَوْمِ مُوسَىٰ فَبَغَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ مِنَ ٱلْكُنُوزِ مَآ إِنَّ مَفَاتِحَهُۥ لَتَنُوٓأُ بِٱلْعُصْبَةِ أُو۟لِى ٱلْقُوَّةِ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُۥ قَوْمُهُۥ لَا تَفْرَحْ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْفَرِحِينَ

Translation

Indeed Qaaroon was from Moosa عليه الصلاة والسلام's people (the Bani Israa'eel), but he rebelled (outrageously) against them (oppressed them and behaved arrogantly towards them). We granted him treasures, the keys of which were too heavy (even) for a mighty troop of men. (Remember the time) When his people (the Mu'mineen from the Bani Israa'eel) told him, "Do not be boastful (proud), for verily Allaah does not like the boastful ones." (proud ones)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

إن قارون كان من قوم موسى -عليه الصلاة والسلام- فتجاوز حدَّه في الكِبْر والتجبر عليهم، وآتينا قارون من كنوز الأموال شيئًا عظيمًا، حتى إنَّ مفاتحه لَيثقل حملها على العدد الكثير من الأقوياء، إذ قال له قومه: لا تبطر فرحًا بما أنت فيه من المال، إن الله لا يحب مِن خلقه البَطِرين الذين لا يشكرون لله تعالى ما أعطاهم.
