The Holy Quran 28:56 — Surah Al-Qasas

Arabic text

إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِى مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ

Translation

(Referring to Rasulullaah ﷺ's remorse when he was unable to get his uncle Abu Taalib to accept Islaam before he died, Allaah says,) Verily you (O Rasulullaah ﷺ) cannot guide those whom you love (to Islaam), but Allaah guides whoever He wills. He is best aware of those who are (deserving to be) rightly guided (and who deserve to be guided to Imaan).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

إنك -أيها الرسول- لا تهدي هداية توفيق مَن أحببت هدايته، ولكن ذلك بيد الله يهدي مَن يشاء أن يهديه للإيمان، ويوفقه إليه، وهو أعلم بمن يصلح للهداية فيهديه.
