The Holy Quran 28:27 — Surah Al-Qasas

Arabic text

قَالَ إِنِّىٓ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُنكِحَكَ إِحْدَى ٱبْنَتَىَّ هَـٰتَيْنِ عَلَىٰٓ أَن تَأْجُرَنِى ثَمَـٰنِىَ حِجَجٍ ۖ فَإِنْ أَتْمَمْتَ عَشْرًا فَمِنْ عِندِكَ ۖ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَيْكَ ۚ سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

Translation

(Impressed by the integrity of Moosa عليه الصلاة والسلام) He (the father) said, "I wish to marry you to one these daughters of mine on condition that you work for me for eight years. If you complete ten years (of service), it will be your choice. (However,) I do not wish to impose upon you (you may therefore choose between eight and ten years). If Allaah wills, you will find me to be among the righteous (who will treat you honourably and keep my word)."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

قال الشيخ لموسى: إني أريد أن أزوِّجك إحدى ابنتيَّ هاتين، على أن تكون أجيرًا لي في رعي ماشيتي ثماني سنين مقابل ذلك، فإن أكملت عشر سنين فإحسان من عندك، وما أريد أن أشق عليك بجعلها عشرا، ستجدني إن شاء الله من الصالحين في حسن الصحبة والوفاء بما قلتُ.
