The Holy Quran 20:129 — Surah Taha

Arabic text

وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَكَانَ لِزَامًا وَأَجَلٌ مُّسَمًّى

Translation

If it were not for a decree (binding decision) that had already proceeded from your Rabb (that these people will be punished in the Aakhirah), and (if it were nor for) an appointed term (Qiyaamah), punishment would have certainly come (to them already).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ولولا كلمة سبقت من ربك وأجل مسمى عنده للازمهم الهلاك عاجلا، لأنهم يستحقونه؛ بسبب كفرهم.
