The Holy Quran 19:23 — Surah Maryam

Arabic text

فَأَجَآءَهَا ٱلْمَخَاضُ إِلَىٰ جِذْعِ ٱلنَّخْلَةِ قَالَتْ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى مِتُّ قَبْلَ هَـٰذَا وَكُنتُ نَسْيًا مَّنسِيًّا

Translation

The labour pains brought her to the trunk of a date palm (from which she took support). She said, "Oh! If only I had died before this and had been completely forgotten (in that way, I would not have to suffer the difficulty of being here all alone without any provisions and I would not have to worry about the insults of people when they see me with a baby)."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فألجأها طَلْقُ الحمل إلى جذع النخلة فقالت: يا ليتني متُّ قبل هذا اليوم، وكنت شيئًا لا يُعْرَف، ولا يُذْكَر، ولا يُدْرَى مَن أنا؟
