The Holy Quran 18:82 — Surah Al-Kahf

Arabic text

وَأَمَّا ٱلْجِدَارُ فَكَانَ لِغُلَـٰمَيْنِ يَتِيمَيْنِ فِى ٱلْمَدِينَةِ وَكَانَ تَحْتَهُۥ كَنزٌ لَّهُمَا وَكَانَ أَبُوهُمَا صَـٰلِحًا فَأَرَادَ رَبُّكَ أَن يَبْلُغَآ أَشُدَّهُمَا وَيَسْتَخْرِجَا كَنزَهُمَا رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ وَمَا فَعَلْتُهُۥ عَنْ أَمْرِى ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَأْوِيلُ مَا لَمْ تَسْطِع عَّلَيْهِ صَبْرًا

Translation

"As for the wall (which I straightened), it belonged to two orphaned boys in the town. Beneath it was their treasure (which their father had buried there and built the wall to mark the spot) and their father was a pious person. Your Rabb intended that (when) they come of age and (learn about their treasure, they would be able to find the spot because of the wall and then) excavate their treasure, (Had the wall fallen, they would never have been able to trace the whereabouts of their treasure.) This is the mercy of your Rabb (towards the children of pious Mu'mineen). I did not carry out these actions of my own accord (I was following the instructions of Allaah). This is the interpretation (the unseen background) of the things that you could not bear (to see) with patience."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وأما الحائط الذي عدَّلتُ مَيْلَه حتى استوى فإنه كان لغلامين يتيمين في القرية التي فيها الجدار، وكان تحته كنز لهما من الذهب والفضة، وكان أبوهما رجلا صالحًا، فأراد ربك أن يكبَرا ويبلغا قوتهما، ويستخرجا كنزهما رحمة من ربك بهما، وما فعلتُ يا موسى جميع الذي رأيتَني فعلتُه عن أمري ومن تلقاء نفسي، وإنما فعلته عن أمر الله، ذلك الذي بَيَّنْتُ لك أسبابه هو عاقبة…
