The Holy Quran 18:57 — Surah Al-Kahf

Arabic text

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن ذُكِّرَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِۦ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا وَنَسِىَ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ ۚ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَن يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا ۖ وَإِن تَدْعُهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ فَلَن يَهْتَدُوٓا۟ إِذًا أَبَدًا

Translation

Who can be more unjust (wrong) than he who has been advised with the Aayaat of his Rabb, but (instead of heeding the advice contained in the Aayaat, he) ignores them and has (even) forgotten what (sins) he has sent forth (to the Aakhirah) ? (Therefore, such people do not bother about the consequences of their sins and do not seek forgiveness.) We have certainly placed a veil on their hearts lest they should understand it (the Qur'aan) and placed a prop in their ears (so that they cannot listen with the intention of accepting). (Therefore,) Even if you call them to guidance they shall (not accept and) never be guided aright.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ولا أحد أشد ظلمًا ممن وُعِظ بآيات ربه الواضحة، فانصرف عنها إلى باطله، ونسي ما قدَّمته يداه من الأفعال القبيحة فلم يرجع عنها، إنَّا جعلنا على قلوبهم أغطية، فلم يفهموا القرآن، ولم يدركوا ما فيه من الخير، وجعلنا في آذانهم ما يشبه الصمم، فلم يسمعوه ولم ينتفعوا به، وإن تَدْعُهم إلى الإيمان فلن يستجيبوا لك، ولن يهتدوا إليه أبدًا.
