The Holy Quran 17:61 — Surah Al-Isra

Arabic text

وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِـَٔادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ قَالَ ءَأَسْجُدُ لِمَنْ خَلَقْتَ طِينًا

Translation

(Remember the time) When We created Aadam عليه الصلاة والسلام and told the angels, "Prostrate to Aadam!" they all prostrated except Iblees. He said, "Should I prostrate to one whom You have created from mud (when I have been created from fire, which is superior to mud)?"

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

واذكر قولنا للملائكة: اسجدوا لآدم تحية وتكريمًا، فسجدوا جميعًا إلا إبليس، استكبر وامتنع عن السجود قائلا على سبيل الإنكار والاستكبار: أأسجد لهذا الضعيف، المخلوق من الطين؟
