The Holy Quran 17:36 — Surah Al-Isra

Arabic text

وَلَا تَقْفُ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْبَصَرَ وَٱلْفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ كَانَ عَنْهُ مَسْـُٔولًا

Translation

And do not pursue what you have no knowledge about (do not comment on subjects you have no knowledge about or speak about something that has not been verified). Indeed questioning (on the Day of Qiyaamah) shall take place with regard to (what) the ears (heard), (what) the eyes (saw) and (what thoughts and wrong beliefs) the hearts (harboured).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ولا تتبع -أيها الإنسان- ما لا تعلم، بل تأكَّد وتثبَّت. إن الإنسان مسؤول عما استعمَل فيه سمعه وبصره وفؤاده، فإذا استعمَلها في الخير نال الثواب، وإذا استعملها في الشر نال العقاب.
